Sebbene la sfida sfacciata della Russia all’ordine internazionale guidato dall’Occidente non sia andata come previsto, ha comunque dimostrato la malleabilità della politica globale. Un insieme comune di regole neutrali sta lasciando il posto a una nuova competizione per l’accesso root al sistema globale.
Le recenti crisi evidenziano la necessità di un nuovo pensiero geopolitico, soprattutto in Occidente, e da nessuna parte più che in Europa. Soprattutto, la guerra in Ucraina ha messo in luce un fondamentale malinteso nel modo in cui le democrazie occidentali pensano alla tecnologia. Lungi dal porre fine al conflitto di stato, lo sviluppo tecnologico moderno aumenta la posta in gioco del conflitto ed è probabile che lo intensifichi.
